Create your first countdown timer

In this article you create a countdown from a ready-made template, set its end time, then publish it so your store's visitors see it.

When to use this article​

  • You have a limited-time offer and want a countdown for it.
  • You want to start from a ready-made template.
  • You are opening the Edit countdown timer editor for the first time.

Before you start​

Steps​

  1. Click Countdown timer in the menu on the left. If a submenu opens, click Available templates. The Choose the right template page opens.
  2. Hover over the template you want, then click Choose template.
  3. In the Create a new popup window, enter a name for the popup. The name is optional. If you leave it empty, PopupSnap picks a name for you.
  4. Click Save. The Edit countdown timer editor opens.
  5. In the Offer end time section, click the Offer end date and time field and choose the date and time yourself.
  6. In the Main text section, edit the Main heading. Also edit the Description and the Button text if your template has them.
  7. Check the design in Live preview. The preview updates on its own after every change.
  8. Click Save changes. The message "Changes saved successfully!" appears.
  9. Click Publish popup.

On large screens, Back, Discard changes, Save changes and Publish popup sit in a fixed bar at the bottom of the screen. Next to them is the save status: Saved or Unsaved changes. You can also save with Ctrl+S, or Cmd+S on a Mac. Discard changes puts the countdown back the way it was when you opened the page.

If you have no countdowns yet and you open PopupSnap directly (not inside Salla), PopupSnap skips the templates page and creates a countdown named Offer ending soon for you. It opens in the editor with the Three steps to make your countdown live card. Its end time is already set to three days from now. Change the time and the text, then publish.

Check that it works​

  1. Open My campaigns in the top bar.
  2. Find the countdown in the list and check that its status is Live.
  3. Open your store and check that the countdown shows and counts down.

A new countdown starts unpublished. Visitors do not see it until you click Publish popup or move the status switch in the list to Live.

Common errors​

ErrorFix
The countdown does not show on the storeCheck that its status is Live. See Publish or pause a countdown.
