Understand how Lucky Wheel works on your storefront
This article explains the customer's journey, from the wheel appearing to getting the coupon code. Lucky Wheel is currently available on Salla only.
When to use this article
- You want to know what your customer will see before you publish the wheel.
- You want to understand what customer data is saved.
Before you start
- Publish the wheel first. Visitors to your store cannot see an unpublished wheel.
What happens for the customer?
- The wheel appears when all the display rules are met: the display time, the page, the device, the schedule, the display frequency and the customer's spin limit.
- The customer fills in the form under the wheel. The form fields come from the template. The spin button is also the form's submit button. The browser checks the required fields, and PopupSnap checks the phone number if the form has one.
- The wheel spins when the customer clicks the spin button.
- A prize is picked at random in the customer's browser, based on the Win chance of each segment. These numbers set how likely each segment is to come up. They do not guarantee any particular result.
- The result page replaces the wheel. It shows the prize text, its image and the coupon code, with a Copy code button. After the click, the button reads "Copied" for a moment.
- The customer's details are saved on the Subscribers page.
If you did not enter a code for a segment, the page shows the texts "Your result", "Result", "There's no code for this result." and "You can keep shopping or try again later."
What customer data is saved?
- PopupSnap saves all the form fields and the coupon code the customer got.
- It does not save the prize text or the prize image.
- It records the customer's approximate location (city and country).
After the wheel is closed
If the customer closes the wheel, a fixed mini wheel may appear in the store, and clicking it opens the wheel. The mini wheel does not appear when the customer has used all their spins.
Check that it works
- Open your store in a private browsing window and check that the wheel appears.
- Spin once and check the code on the result page. This test is saved as a subscriber on the Subscribers page, and you can delete it afterward.
Common errors
| What you see | Fix |
|---|---|
| The wheel does not appear | See Fix a Lucky Wheel that is not showing. |
| The message "An error occurred while submitting the form" when the network fails | The wheel window shows this message when the form cannot be sent, for example when the connection drops. Ask the customer to try again. |
FAQ
Does every wheel need a form before the spin?
The fields come from the template. Some templates ask for an email, some for a phone number, some for a name with a phone number or email, and one template has no fields, only a button.
Can a customer spin more than once?
The default is one spin per browser and device. The count is kept in the customer's browser. If the customer clears their browser data or uses another device, they may be able to spin again.
Can I edit the form fields?
No. The fields come from the template, and you cannot add, delete or rename them. Choose a template whose fields fit your needs. See Choose the right Lucky Wheel template.
