Show an option only when the customer chooses something

You give the option a condition in When does it show?, so the customer does not see it until they pick a specific choice.

Before you start

• You have an option from Picks from a list for the condition to depend on, such as "Do you want engraving?" with "Yes" and "No". See Let customers choose a color, size or design.

Steps

Path: Products > Open Product Studio > Options

1. Click the name of the option you want to hide until the customer picks, such as "Engraving text". Its settings open.
2. Click When does it show?, then choose Only if…. Product Studio adds a ready condition for you to edit.
3. After "Show only when the customer picks, in", choose the option it depends on, such as "Do you want engraving?".
4. After "the choice", choose the choice that shows the option, such as "Yes".

5. Optional: for a second condition, open Advanced settings, then click + Another condition. With All conditions, every condition must be met. With Any condition, one is enough.

6. Check in the preview: choose "Yes", and the option shows.

   On a phone: open the Preview tab to try the condition.

7. Click Review & publish, then Publish now. Until then, nothing changes in your store.

   On a phone: the Review & publish button is at the bottom of the screen.

What your customers see

The customization goes live in your store within about a minute. The customer does not see the option until they choose "Yes". If you turned on Required, the option is required only when it shows. If an option the customer typed in becomes hidden, what they typed is not sent with the order.

Good to know

• A condition can depend only on an option from Picks from a list that has choices. Text and uploaded files cannot be a condition.
• Under the option name in the list, conditional shows, so you know which options have a condition.
• If you delete the option the condition depends on, publishing stops. Edit the condition or choose Always. The details are in Fix what stops your product from publishing.

Not showing?

• You see "Add a list option first (like “Yes / No”) to make this depend on it."? Add an option from Picks from a list, then go back to the condition.
• The option does not show even after the choice? Check that you did not hide it with Hide from customers from the ⋯ button next to it.
